Abstract

Car rental businesses face various risks related to operational, financial, legal, human resource, and technological aspects. This study aims to analyze the development of risk management research in the car rental industry during 2020–2025 using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis with VOSviewer. Research data were collected from scientific articles selected based on PRISMA guidelines. The analysis employed Network Visualization, Overlay Visualization, and Density Visualization to identify dominant themes and research trends. The findings indicate that risk management is the primary theme in car rental studies, with operational risk being the most frequently discussed topic, particularly regarding vehicle damage, accidents, delayed returns, and customer misuse. The results also reveal a shift in research focus toward technologies such as GPS Tracking, IoT, and information systems, as well as legal protection, fraud, customer verification, and consumer disputes. This study concludes that existing research remains fragmented, highlighting the need for a more integrated risk management model to support the sustainability of car rental businesses.
