Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of occupational safety aboard the AHTS MP. PROWESS in supporting pipeline operations at Chevron Oil Field Thailand. Maritime pipeline operations involve considerable risks, including fluid leakage, fire and explosion, lifting and material handling hazards, confined spaces, adverse weather, vessel position deviation, and worker fatigue. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to obtain an in-depth understanding of safety practices from the perspectives and experiences of personnel directly involved in vessel operations. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that occupational safety is implemented through Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Permit to Work, Toolbox Meetings, Job Safety Analysis/Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (JSA/HIRARC), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), equipment inspections, and emergency response procedures. Their effectiveness is strongly influenced by leadership commitment, crew competence, communication, discipline, and active participation in reporting unsafe conditions and near misses. The study concludes that an integrated safety management system, supported by continuous training, monitoring, evaluation, and a strong safety culture, is essential for minimizing occupational risks and improving the safety and sustainability of offshore pipeline operations.
