Abstract

This study aims to analyze the welfare level of capture fishery households using the Poverty Probability Index (PPI) and to identify the factors influencing it in Batauga Subdistrict, South Buton Regency. The study was conducted from April to May 2026 with a sample of 84 capture fishery households selected using the proportionate stratified random sampling method. Data analysis was performed descriptively using the Poverty Probability Index (PPI) and multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that the average PPI score for fishing households was 34.80, suggesting that the respondents’ welfare level remains relatively low. Based on PPI score categories, 66.67% of households fell into the “less well-off” category, 26.19% into the “moderately well-off” category, and 7.14% into the “pre-well-off” category. Based on the probability of poverty (National Poverty Line), 40.48% of households were classified as relatively not vulnerable, 22.62% as moderately vulnerable, 34.52% as vulnerable, and 2.38% as highly vulnerable to poverty. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicate that education (X₁), boat ownership (X₃), machinery use (X₄), and fish production (X₇) have a significant effect on the welfare level of fishing households. Conversely, age (X₂), business diversification (X₅), access to subsidized fuel (X₆), and social assistance (X₈) do not have a significant effect on the welfare level of fishing households
