The Strategy of Early Childhood Sex Education in Preventing Sexual Violence and Deviant Behavior
Abstract
Sex education at the early childhood stage is often misunderstood as a taboo or inappropriate topic, even though this period is the most critical time for shaping children’s understanding of themselves, their bodies, and social boundaries. This study aims to explore and describe effective strategies for implementing early childhood sex education as a preventive measure against sexual violence and deviant behavior. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and literature review design, the research analyzes various sources, including educational journals, reports from international organizations (UNICEF, WHO), and studies on child development and protection. The findings show that age-appropriate sexual education plays a crucial role in helping children recognize safe and unsafe behaviors, understand body autonomy, and develop self-confidence to report inappropriate actions. Effective strategies identified in this study include play-based learning, story-based approaches, integration into daily classroom activities, and strong collaboration between teachers and parents. Teachers serve as facilitators who model respect and empathy, while parents play a key role in reinforcing these lessons at home through open communication and trust. Moreover, the research emphasizes that early sex education not only prevents abuse but also fosters moral and emotional development, reducing the likelihood of deviant behavior in later stages of life. Cultural sensitivity, continuous teacher training, and supportive educational policies are also essential for successful implementation. In conclusion, early childhood sex education should not be seen as a taboo subject but as a form of moral and safety education that protects children’s dignity and prepares them to grow into empathetic, responsible individuals.
