Development Of A School Mathematics Exam Test Instrument For Grade IX Of Selayar Islands State Middle School
Abstract
This study aims to develop a high-quality school mathematics examination test instrument for Grade IX students at Selayar Islands State Middle School. The research employs a research and development (R&D) method based on the Borg and Gall model, involving systematic stages from initial design, validation, testing, to final product revision. The results indicate that the developed instrument meets the criteria of a good assessment tool, with 20 out of 30 items declared valid and the model achieving goodness-of-fit standards, demonstrating accurate construct measurement. The instrument also shows high reliability, with coefficient α and ω values of 0.839 and an average inter-item correlation of 0.208. In terms of difficulty level, most items fall into the moderate category, ensuring proportional measurement of students’ abilities, with only one item classified as difficult. Furthermore, the discrimination power of most items is categorized as good to very good, although a few require revision. Overall, the instrument is valid, reliable, and effective, making it suitable for objectively and consistently evaluating students’ mathematics learning outcomes
