Abstract

This study aims to develop a practical instrument for assessing the English text writing ability of junior high school students in Bulukumba District. The research employed a research and development (R&D) design, involving data collection through teacher questionnaires, classroom observations, and student responses, which were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results reveal that the developed instrument demonstrates a very high level of practicality, with teacher questionnaire scores reaching 90.77%, observation results 90.63%, and overall data triangulation 89%, all categorized as highly practical. The instrument is considered easy to use, clear in language, comprehensive in assessment aspects, and flexible for various text types, while also supporting effective formative feedback and student understanding. Despite minor revisions needed in efficiency and feedback procedures, the instrument is proven to be practical and effective for classroom implementation.
