Implementation of Local Content Learning in Islamic Boarding Schools in Shaping Student Character at MTs Rare Muchtary Denpasar and MTs Al Mubarokah Lamongan

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of local content learning based on pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in two madrasahs with different socio-cultural characteristics, namely MTs Rare Muchtary Denpasar and MTs Al Mubarokah Lamongan. The focus of this study includes the model of learning implementation, its effectiveness in shaping students' character, as well as the factors that influence its successful execution. The research approach used is qualitative with a multi-site study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed descriptively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.  The results of the study indicate that the implementation of pesantren-based local content in both madrasahs shares similarities in the goal of strengthening Islamic values and shaping students' religious character, but differs in the implementation strategies. In Denpasar, the pesantren-based local content was adapted Contextualized to adapt to the environment of the pluralistic Hindu community, while in Lamongan it emphasizes a traditional pesantren approach that is rich in Islamic values. The main factors affecting the success of implementation include the role of the madrasa principal as a learning leader, support from the social environment, and the availability of teaching materials in the form of handbooks compiled contextually. This study provides a theoretical contribution to the development of character education based on Indonesian local values and offers practical implications for madrasas in integrating pesantren values into the local content curriculum. These findings are also expected to serve as a reference for policymakers in designing local curricula that are adaptive to cultural diversity and contemporary Islamic educational needs.
