Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of students' financial behavior during the transition toward economic independence, particularly when access to digital financial services is increasingly widespread. This study aims to analyze the effects of financial literacy and self-control on students' financial behavior, both directly and indirectly through financial attitude as a mediating variable. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The respondents were 95 students of the Department of Accounting, Universitas Negeri Makassar, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. Results: The results show that financial literacy and self-control have positive and significant effects on financial attitude and financial behavior. Financial attitude also has a positive and significant effect on financial behavior. In addition, financial attitude partially mediates the effects of financial literacy and self-control on students' financial behavior. Conclusion/implications: These findings indicate that improving students' financial behavior should not rely only on strengthening financial knowledge, but should also be directed toward forming positive financial attitudes and developing self-control in facing consumptive impulses.
