Optimisation of Al-Qur’an Memorisation Learning Methods in Enhancing the Spiritual Intelligence of Students

Abstract
Qur’anic memorization learning at the elementary education level is intended not only to improve students’ memorization skills but also to foster their spiritual intelligence. However, previous studies have predominantly emphasized memorization outcomes, while the pedagogical mechanisms linking instructional methods to spiritual development remain insufficiently explored. This study aims to examine the implementation of Qur’anic memorization learning methods, the process of internalizing Qur’anic values, and their impact on students' spiritual intelligence at MI Hasri Agang Je’ne. This study employed a qualitative field research design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis involving the principal, Qur’anic memorization teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Source and method triangulation were applied to ensure the credibility and trustworthiness of the findings. The findings reveal that Qur’anic memorization learning integrates the talaqqi, tikrar, muraja’ah, wahdah, and tasmi’ methods, which are implemented adaptively according to students’ learning characteristics. The instructional process extends beyond memorization accuracy by incorporating the explanation of Qur’anic meanings, teacher role modeling, religious habituation, and moral guidance, enabling the gradual internalization of Qur’anic values. This process contributes to improvements in students’ religiosity, discipline, responsibility, respect for teachers and parents, regular Qur’anic recitation, and commitment to daily worship. The findings demonstrate that spiritual intelligence develops through a pedagogical process that connects memorization activities with understanding, internalization, and practical application of Qur’anic values in everyday life. This study contributes to Islamic education by explaining the pedagogical mechanism through which Qur’anic memorization learning promotes students’ spiritual intelligence. The findings provide an empirical foundation for developing evidence-based Qur’anic memorization learning models that emphasize both memorization achievement and the formation of religious character and spiritual development.
