Analysis Of Academic Burnout Among Working College Students: A Perspective On Self-Efficacy And Academic Stress
Abstract
This study examined the relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress with academic burnout among working undergraduate students. A quantitative correlational research design was used. Data were collected using three Likert-scale psychological instruments administered to 370 active working students selected via purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression and Pearson product-moment correlation. The findings revealed a significant simultaneous relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress with academic burnout (F = 56.804, p = 0.000), contributing 19.1% to the variance of academic burnout. Partially, self-efficacy demonstrated a significant negative relationship with academic burnout (r = -0.057, p = 0.000), indicating that higher self-efficacy was linked to lower burnout. Conversely, academic stress showed a significant positive relationship with academic burnout (r = 0.031, p = 0.000), meaning that greater academic stress predicted higher burnout. In conclusion, both internal personal resources and external academic demands simultaneously determined the level of academic burnout in working students. High self-efficacy functioned as a protective asset, whereas unmanaged academic stress significantly aggravated the risk of developing psychological and emotional exhaustion.
