The Effect Of The Implementation Of The Electronic Absence System On The Performance Of Civil Servants With Work Discipline As An Intervening Variable At The Metro City Transportation Service
Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of the implementation of an electronic attendance system on the performance of civil servants, with work discipline serving as an intervening variable at the Metro City Transportation Agency. The study was motivated by the persistence of attendance and disciplinary issues despite the implementation of an electronic attendance system. A quantitative approach with an explanatory research design was employed. The study population consisted of 44 civil servants working at the Metro City Transportation Agency. A saturated sampling technique was applied, whereby all members of the population were included as respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach with SmartPLS software. The findings reveal that the electronic attendance system has a positive and significant effect on work discipline (β = 0.701; t = 7.030; p < 0.05). Work discipline also has a positive and significant effect on employee performance (β = 0.618; t = 4.072; p < 0.05). Furthermore, the electronic attendance system directly exerts a positive and significant effect on employee performance (β = 0.316; t = 1.986; p < 0.05). The indirect effect analysis demonstrates that work discipline significantly mediates the relationship between the electronic attendance system and employee performance, with an indirect effect coefficient of 0.433 (t = 3.913; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that optimizing the implementation of an electronic attendance system, supported by stronger work discipline, can serve as an effective strategy for improving employee performance while enhancing the quality of public services at the Metro City Transportation Agency.
